Na terceira impressão estende-se a batalha entre os humanos e a tecnologia (robots, computadores), entre criaturas e criadores e, sendo certo que um dos lados obteve a vitória, as opiniões dividem-se sobre quem foi. A letra é ambígua. Pessoalmente pressinto que foram as máquinas. Uma pista “Their graves need no flowers / The tapes have recorded their names”.

Participação na letra de Peter Sinfield, um dos homens chave do rock sinfónico que participou em vários grupos e que muito contribuiu para a divulgação deste género musical.

A expressão Karn Evil, invenção da banda, inspira-se na palavra inglesa “carnival” que significa, naturalmente, carnaval.

A única canção na longa carreira dos ELP em que se pode ouvir, ainda que modificada, a voz Keith Emerson.

Karn Evil 9 inclui-se no álbum Brain Salad Surgery de 1973.
