Supper's Ready, a ceia está pronta, é um dos picos mais altos do Rock Sinfónico dos anos 70. Uma canção bem estruturada, de grande variedade melodia e de extraordinária intensidade.

Um tema recorrente nos Genesis, a batalha entre o Bem e o Mal.

Dividida em sete secções Supper's Ready estende-se por mais de 20 minutos de música de primeira qualidade. Começa com uma bonita balada acústica “Lover’s Leap” numa sala de estar com televisão

Walking across the sitting-room, I turn the television off.

Sitting beside you, I look into your eyes.

As the sound of motor cars fades in the night time,

I swear I saw your face change, it didn't seem quite right.

 a que se segue “The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man” em que a bateria de Collins assume particular presença. Na terceira sessão “"Ikhnaton and Itsacon and Their Band of Merry Men” os exercitos enfrentam-se em batalha:

The fight's begun, they've been released.

Killing foe for peace...bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang...

And they're giving me a wonderful potion,

'Cos I cannot contain my emotion.

And even though I'm feeling good,

Something tells me I'd better activate my prayer capsule.

Continua com "How Dare I Be So Beautiful?" em que Gabriel no palco desabrocha em flor. É o final da batalha com todo o seu horror de cadavers espalhados.

Wandering through the chaos the battle has left,

We climb up a mountain of human flesh,

To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life.

A canção termina com “Willow Farm”, “Apocalypse in 9/8 (Co-Starring the Delicious Talents of Gabble Ratchet)” e finalmente “As Sure As Eggs Is Eggs (Aching Men's Feet)”.

Pode ser encontrada no lado B (!!) do disco Foxtrot de 1972 em que o alinhamento apresentado pelos Genesis consistia em Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett e Phill Collins.  Cada um deles toca, com virtuosismo, um leque alargado de instrumentos.
